Professional Eye Care in the Comfort of Your Home

We provide convenient home eye tests for elderly, disabled, or housebound patients who are unable to visit our clinic.

Who Can Receive a Home Eye Test?

You may qualify for a home eye examination if you:

  • Have a physical disability that makes leaving home difficult
  • Are housebound or bedbound due to illness or mobility issues
  • Have a diagnosed mental health condition that prevents you from going out alone
  • Experience poor health that requires assistance when leaving your home

Our goal is to ensure everyone has access to professional eye care, no matter their circumstances.

How Our Home Eye Tests Work

1. Before Your Appointment

Before the visit, we’ll let you know the name of the optometrist (and assistant if applicable). We’ll set up the examination in a suitable area of your home or wherever you feel most comfortable.

The optometrist will discuss:

  • Your eye health history
  • Any recent changes in vision
  • Current medications or medical conditions

An electronic eye chart will be adjusted to work effectively within your available space.

2. During the Eye Examination

Your optometrist will carry out a thorough assessment of your vision and eye health, including checks for conditions such as glaucoma, diabetes-related eye problems, and other concerns.

The examination may include:

  • Vision testing
  • Eye movement checks
  • Eye pressure testing
  • Retinoscopy for prescription measurement
  • Reading and lens assessment tests

These tests help ensure your prescription and eye health are accurately evaluated.

3. Choosing Your Glasses

After your eye test, we’ll explain your results and advise whether you need new glasses or an updated prescription.

You’ll be able to browse through a variety of frame styles and lens options from the comfort of your home. If you qualify for NHS support, you may also be entitled to a free pair of glasses.

Our Home Eye Care Service

Our qualified optometrist will visit you at home with all the necessary equipment to carry out a complete eye examination, just like the experience you would receive in our clinic.

If glasses are required after your test, we’ll arrange a second visit where we:

  • Take your measurements
  • Bring a selection of frames for you to choose from
  • Offer NHS-funded frame options where eligible

Once your glasses are ready, we’ll deliver them directly to your home, making the entire process simple, comfortable, and stress-free.

Who Qualifies for a FREE Home Eye Test?

Many patients are entitled to a free NHS-funded home eye test if they meet any of the following conditions:

  • Aged 60 or over
  • Diagnosed with diabetes
  • Diagnosed with glaucoma
  • Over 40 with a parent or sibling who has glaucoma
